Bankruptcy
Chapter 7, Chapter 13 Personal Bankruptcy Filing, US Bankruptcy Court, Middle District
A Chapter 7 Bankruptcy is the type of Bankruptcy that ”expunges” or completely forgives unsecured debt, such as credit cards or medical bills.
A Chapter 13 Bankruptcy is one in which the individual repays a portion of unsecured debt while also making payments on secured debt until it is current. This type is usually used when the individual wants to save a home on which they have missed payments or which may even be in foreclosure. Chapter 13 allows the debtor to keep the home, and prevent the foreclosure while he catches up on the arrearages.
